The Icing on the Cake

Okay, in June, the Twins started playing like a good team again. By the end of July, we had caught up to the Wild Card race, and I was thrilled to just be in hunt. By September, we were close enough to possibly win the title, and then on the last day of the regular season, the Twins jumped into first place for the first time all year, and became the Central Division Champs.

A dismal October followed when the Twins were swept 3 straight by Oakland, but once all the champagne had been cleaned up in St. Louis, it was time for the awards.

Of course Mauer got his batting title. Hunter then got his Gold Glove (by default?) Then, as expected, Santana got his second Cy Young. No surprise considering he led in all three major categories (tied in wins, but so what.)

But today's announcement is icing on the cake of a wonderful season. Even as a die never Twins, I didn't realistically think that Morneau could take the top title for a solo player in the league. There was just too much competition. Jeter, Ortiz, Dye (who I thought was better), not to mention his own teammates, Mauer and Santana. But by some miracle, Morneau came out of the pile on top... by only 14 points over Jeter.

Okay, we didn't win the Series, but this accomplishment by Morneau caps off an unbelievable season that will never be duplicated by any team anywhere.

Congrats Twins
Congrats Mauer on the batting title
Congrats Hunter on the Gold Glove
Congrats Santana on the Cy Young
And a big Congrats to Morneau for winning the American League MVP!
